World Bible School – Since the 1950’s, World Bible School has been sending Bible correspondence courses free-of-charge to students around the world. We now serve over 2 million students from 141 nations. The courses were first written by Christians for Christians who served in the armed forces overseas. These men and women separated by war and distance from other believers had difficulty finding opportunities to gather for fellowship, Bible study, prayer and encouragement. To their delight, the Christian service men found their fellow soldiers had a great interest and hunger for learning from the Word of God and they began sharing the materials with thousands who were not Christians. WBS continues to send Bible study correspondence courses to eager students through the postal mail, by email, and on the world wide web. Of course, they are all STILL - free of charge. We encourage you to continue through the site and discover how people’s deepest needs are being met and their lives are being changed by learning more about God and His will through World Bible School.
Chinese Earthquake - The church in Beijing sent a group to the Sichuan earthquake area. The small church commissioned the group to identify four families that could be adopted by the church. As they started to identify the families to adopt they went to a hospital to identify needs. Many families had children who had lost limbs as school buildings collapsed. The next day, the group went to a Christian Bookstore to get some children’s Bibles and some other things to take to the hospital. The hospital visit was really great because the group had already visited several and it was like visiting old friends. This time the group sang them a Christian song and they all appreciated it so much. After singing the song in one room, people would gather at the door and ask us to come to their child’s room and sing to them. It was really neat to see how God could use the group to bring some joy into their lives at this most difficult of times. One of the main tasks this time was to choose families to adopt. They are all families that had been visited the first day. Each family was given 1,000 RMB (@$130) and were told the group would be in contact about further help. The families were all so very appreciative and touched. Funds will be directed to help these families get back on their feet and helping the children get the care they need. The church will also be making follow-up trips. These families all know that the group is doing this because of Christ and they thanked him as well.
Rapha International – The report from the Irrawaddy Delta of Burma is that the situation continues to deteriorate, contrary to the positive bend that the military government puts on its daily news. Foreign relief works still he only limited assess to the devastated areas and videos and cameras are confiscated to prevent the real news getting out. Food, medicine and building supplies are getting through, but only in a few cases are international and agencies able to retain control of the supplies past the military check points. The conditions have reached a critical stage in some areas, where a secondary wave of deaths ae occurrin due to family, untreated wounds, contaminated water and rempant dysentery. A network of Christian Asians have formed a bnetwork of workders that are able to travel into the affected regions. By partnering with Burmese churches, we are able to maintain logistical control and take rfood and supplies to directly to the affected areas through a network of trustworthy national Christians. Rapha has access to more than 60 villages and re responding to the most pressing needs. These needs in order of priority are Clean water, Food, Shelter, Medical supplies, Reclaiming land and Public education.
Disaster Relief – The Mid-West has been devastated with rain, tornadoes and floods. Disaster Relief in Nashville sent 11 truckloads immediately to churches in Iowa, Indiana, Kansas and Illinois. Additional trucks will be sent to reach out to people who have lost everything. The trucks will have food, bedding and appliances. Funds are needed to allow Disaster Relief to respond to the needs of the people throughout these areas as the waters recede in some areas while in other areas the rivers have not yet crested.
