The Kelley & Julie Grant family live in Santiago, Chile. They are part of the Santiago team formed through Continent of Great Cities. Kelley and Julie met while at Texas A&M. Following a summer mission trip to Asia, they decided to consider serving as part of a foreign mission team. In 1992, Kelley earned his Bachelor of Science degree in speech communication from Texas A&M.Kelley and Julie were married and moved from College Station to Dallas in 1993. Kelley worked as a bank officer and Julie taught in the elementary school in the Grapevine/Colleyville district. In 1996, a friend contacted them about forming a team to plant a church in Santiago. A team of seven began to plan and train together. In 1998, Kelley began to prepare full time by taking Bible classes at the Center for Christian Education in Dallas. In March of 1999, the team arrived in Santiago and immediately began the task of learning Spanish, becoming acclimated to the local culture and building relationships. In March of 2000, the “Los Leones” congregation had its inaugural service with 160 people in attendance. Bible studies were started with contacts which were made during the first year in Santiago. During the following months a number of people were baptized as the core of the new congregation began to form.Since March of 2000, over 110 people have been baptized and the Church attendance has reached approximately 130 including adults and children. The Church has been blessed to purchase property and construct a new building with generous donations from congregations in North America as well as the local Christians.
The Grant family has also grown. There are now four children in the Grant family. Duncan (1997), Abby (1999), Victoria (2003) and Konner (2005) spread joy and excitement throughout the home. The future of the Providencia congregation looks bright as the Church trusts in the Lord to bring Chilean Shepherds to lead a growing Chilean Church.
